If using LCD projectors, make sure to spend the extra money for units specifically designed to run for long periods of time, you will pay more for them in the short term, but they will last much longer. Also, be sure to blow out the filters at least once a month, and change the lamps when indicated, do not reset the counter. I've heard that as the lamps in these types of projectors age, they begin to emit more light in the ultraviolet which can damage the LCD panels.
We have been open just over 2 years and practically all LCD projectors used for exhibit display have burned LCD panels. These projectors were not designed for being on over eight hours a day seven days a week.
In addition, if you have a building automation system be careful that power to the projectors is not cut off completely. The internal fans must keep running for a few minutes in order to cool the projector before it shuts down.
Conversely, we have a number of 40" LCD monitors throughout the building and they are still working flawlessly!

Hello all,
I'm looking for advice on large (>60") monitors or projection systems
for continuous play of video in a small exhibit hall. Does anyone have
advice regarding the durability, reliability, up-front and maintenance
costs of LCD monitors vs. LCD projectors vs. plasma monitors?
Thank you,
Debbie
