I'd say where the definition Lou's group had up runs into trouble is the
"everything" part. For example, science cannot explain nor investigate why
the Pittsburgh Steelers are the greatest team ever --- yet I know this to be
true!

I suspect another reason this is tough is that it relies on previous
knowledge... For example, how do you define the "natural" world. To a 7 year
old, a building or a computer probably don't seem "natural", yet science
studies and explains those things.

What was it someone once said? "I can't define it, but I know it when I see
it."  ;)
