I don't remember who was showing it at ASTC, but I know I've seen that
exhibit at the Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, CA. It was in
their exhibit Planetary Landscapes, which were all things made by Ned
Kahn.  This piece was added later, though, and doesn't match the
description you'll find on their website.  What I saw there last summer
was the crater simulator you describe.

Does anyone know who was showing off a crater simulator in the exhibit
hall at the conference in '03 or '04? It had a steel ball that dropped
into some kind of slurry and made a nice crater, then was scooped up by
a claw to be dropped again. Hopefully someone's memory is better then
mine. Thanks.
