Can you reconfigure the backlit puzzle as a tabletop unit rather than
a wall unit? That way you won't have to worry about trying to get
pieces to stay stuck in place for a "wall puzzle" As a bonus, a
tabletop unit fosters multi-user activity and greater
accessibility.
Otherwise how about acrylic puzzle pieces with holes, to register
with clear pegs on the wall-mounted "radio image" of the sun.
