Bonnie,

I worked with Roy from the time he was a student in my 7th grade science
classroom, during over 20 years at COSI, and then continuing through ASTC
associations. In every adventure we shared (and there were many) he
demonstrated deep understanding, incredible tenacity for trying new things
and getting things done, and was the kind of student and colleague that I
always learned from. He knew where he was going and usually found a way to
get there. He could make the impossible happen.

As a high school student he taught some of the first classes for elementary
students at COSI and was one of our best teachers. He was the key partner
in adventures in which we took students diving in the Bahamas, started the
first camp-in in a Science Museum, and developed ways of packaging science
investigations for children. As director of COSI he led COSI into the 21st
century with exemplary planning, resources, and programs and also
contributed extensively to the national and international Science Center
community.

Much of what I have been able to accomplish has been greatly influenced by
Roy. He was a good friend and colleague who I will greatly miss. Roy,
through his influence, will continue to be a part of building experiences
and adventure for children of all ages.

I agree that no ties, no suits, and a few martinis – and possibly with a
good cigar – are definitely in order as we celebrate a great life.
