Mike Bennett, the present Executive Director of the Astronomical Society of
the Pacific (ASP) plans to retire at the end of the year. The Society seeks
a dynamic Executive Director to lead it into continued growth and new
opportunities.

Founded in 1889 in San Francisco, the ASP is one of the nation's most
respected organizations devoted to improving people's understanding,
appreciation, and enjoyment of astronomy and space. Widely recognized for
its success in building bridges between research astronomers, educators of
all descriptions, and amateur astronomers, the ASP publishes both scholarly
and educational materials, conducts professional development programs for
formal and informal educators, and holds conferences, symposia, and
workshops for scientists and educators who specialize in astronomy education
and outreach.

Key responsibilities include strategic planning and implementation,
organizational leadership, institutional advancement, financial management,
pursuit of opportunities, and organizational collaboration.

The successful candidate will have at least five years experience in a
management position in a research or science education setting. Demonstrated
success in organizational development and/or fundraising is highly
desirable, as is a proven track record of obtaining major grants and
successfully managing complex research and/or education programs. Direct
management experience with nationwide science education programs, or major
physics or astronomy programs, funded by NASA and/or NSF, is also highly
desirable. An advanced degree in a science related to astronomy, or in
education, is preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted.

For complete information on the position and how to apply, see
