Dee,

We (Omniplex Science Museum) have had a Children's advisory board in the
past. It included mostly children in the 7 to 12 age range.

It was our experience that written surveys give very little usable data.
Children usually rate things very highly or simply skip the questions
that would get some less than satisfactory rating.

To compensate for this we divided the children up in same age groupings
and asked them the questions verbally. Even then they tend to focus on
the things they enjoy and ignore the rest. Perhaps this reaction could
be used or measured in some well designed test, but during a verbal
survey it is not hard to direct the questions toward things children
done care to talk about.

So typically we would devise a list of questions and read them to the
group and ask for their response. After a few minutes we would ask the
next question. We tried to make the questions alternate between easy to
answer and hard to answer to encourage reactions. You may also find that
kids tend to want to back track and revise something they answered to a
previous question, so it is good to have a general "what do you think?"
question often.

We hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi All

Season's greetings and Happy Hogmanay!

We are currently creating a number of new children's interactives and
have
designed them to be pitched at the level of eight year old children.

We hope to undertake evaluation trials with children early in January
and
would like to give the children simple evaluation forms for them to
complete, with standardised questions.

Have any of you ever dome this? If so, we would be extremely grateful if
you
could share nay information with us.

Huge thanks
