Good Morning All,
You all may be interested to know that one of the Age of Reason's golden
boys, Thomas Jefferson, took a keen interest in the Bible, and in
particular the New Testament. In fact, Mr. Jefferson wrote his own
version of the Gospel (I am not making this up), editing out the bits
that didn't fit his viewpoint. Please go the to link

to read Mr. Jefferson's Bible. It is an enjoyable read.......and an
interesting portal into the mind of Mr. Jefferson.
Best Wishes,
Wesley

The peple you mention and most pre 20th century religious folks
(including
Thomas Jeferson) were theists- not deists. A theist believes in an
impersonal creator - the one that started it all (and then let it
go.....)
A deist believes that their god takes a personal interest in each
individual's life.
We have 50- hundreds of years of empiricism, research and scientific
findings since the men you mentioned which have yet to demonstrate any
paranormal phenomena or beings. Scientists would be fascinated by the
existence of the supernatural- some of us have our fingers
crossed....Theist
or deist we can only imagine what god might be....
