ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers

At the Orlando Science Center, we do two types of "outreach" programs. Our traditional outreach consists of a family science night (at a school, after hours). The school provides chaperones and we bring 15-20 stations (seperate activities that are portable) that can be set up in a "cafetorium". Our presenters help run the evening, but the chaperones (teachers, parents, etc) perform the activities with the kids. This program is wildly successful here as gas prices are forcing teachers to rethink paying for buses. Our second type of program is the "footlocker" outreach. With this outreach, presenters go to the schools during school hours and perform a lesson for a class (or classes) at that school. This program is gaining momentum, but is typically asked for less (I'm guessing because teachers have to break up their work day in order to do this).
If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to put you in touch with our Outreach Coordinator, Michael Duggan. I'm sure he'd be happy to give you any further advice you may need.

I was wondering if perhaps thoughts could be shared on what the word
Outreach means to the Science Center community. What types of programs
are considered outreach? Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly
appreciated.
