The April 2005 issue of Curator, The Museum Journal - ("A Focus on Youth,
Science, and Museums") contains several essays and articles that may be
highly
relevant to many museum educators, especially those involved in enhancing
programs and
developing proposals. Julie Johnson (an Informal Science Education program
director at NSF) and Dennis Liu (Howard Hughes Medical Institute program
director) have both written very thoughtful essays. Darlene Librero has
provided an update on studies of the Exploratorium's Explainer Program. The
two feature articles are based on long-term studies of SMM's Youth Science
Center and Franklin Institute's work in building partnerships between Girl
Scout Councils and science
museums.
We all know how important it is, especially now, for us to have access to
research
studies relevant to our work in informal education. If your museum does not
subscribe,
you can purchase this issue by contacting Rachelle Weant, Curator: The
Museum Journal,
15200 NBN Way, Blue Ridge Summit, PA 17214; (800) 273-2223.
