ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Museum People,
For a school event entitled "Building Bridges Over the
Community" that will be a mix of Latin American
parents (primary group), Caucasian parents, and
others, we want to design an interactive learning game
regarding perception of place in your community
relative to natural, historical, and cultural
features. The goal is for participants to develop a
greater sense of belonging to the natural and human
community.
We would love some creative input.
This is what we are envisioning thus far:
*Individual 11 x 17 maps showing just the basic layout
of roads.
* Cut-out shapes of schools, hospitals, trees,
streams, supermarkets, etc. that can be affixed to the
map
* A set of questions to guide participants to create
their own maps such as "Where can you go to find
flowing waters near you?"
"What places do you visit weekly?"
A large (say 5' x 10') road map on the wall that
participants will complete together after their
individual excercises to collectively demonstrate how
they conceptualize their community layout and
landmarks.
If anyone has done anything like this before, we would
love to hear from you.
thanks,
Devin Reese, Ph.D.
