One good turn deserves another!
You got good advice about attending to maintenance cost and using the sound
absorbing properties of carpet. Here are some further comments:
Museum visits are very tiring, especially to the legs, and changes to floor
surface seem to ameliorate this to a surprising degree. I would aim for a
variety of surfaces - carpet, rubber, ceramic tile, wood etc.
Ref. maintenance cost: don't forget cleaning cost. E.g.: mastic tiles
wear very well, but getting ugly rubber scuffs off them is quite difficult.
