Bravo to you and ILI for this question! I think more and more of us should
use it and explore this aspect of museum visits.
It's time we acknowledge that most adults coming to science museums with
children have a different visit agenda, or as Zahava Doering put it
"entering narrative" than adult who come with other adults. Kirsten
Ellenbogon's dissertation indicates that this type of learning does
contribute to family identity as science interest and science museum goes.
Learning how we can better support that type of agenda--exhibits that allow
more than one user with labels and interactive interfaces that allow/cue
adult-child collaboration and interaction is a great direction for our
field. I may still be a little narrow here in direction--but this question
leads in a very rich direction.
