Call to list research on e-learning in science centres (March 20, 2006)

We at the e-journal MUSEUM EDUCATION MONITOR (MEM) are now compiling a
list of ongoing research projects undertaken by practitioners, students,
and academics on science centre-related education and interpretation
issues for our upcoming April 2006 issue.

This month we are particularly interested in research related to
questions surrounding e-learning in museums, galleries, science centres,
historic sites, and other informal learning settings. The tools (e.g.
blogs & wikis online; hand-helds and other devices in the galleries) are
proliferating rapidly but is there evidence that learning is taking
place in our newly-"connected" electronic environments? If not, what IS
happening?

If you would like to list your research, please send an e-mail to
[log in to unmask] that summarizes:
- name of project
- research question(s) [no more than 50 words, please]
- principal researchers
- site(s) where research is being conducted
- time span
- contact information
- key words to describe the project [no more than 4 or 5, please]
Deadline for submissions for this issue is *Friday, April 7, 2006.*

FYI, projects listed in the February 2006 issue of MUSEUM EDUCATION
MONITOR include:
- Disability Access and Audience Development Initiative (Australia)
- Expanding Knowledge: Small Group and Family Interactions in
Exhibitions (Switzerland)
- Determining users' needs and experiences while accessing museums
online collections (UK)
- Museum education: Understanding the profession and its members (UK)
- Using non-science specific museums and galleries as a context for
stimulating science investigations (UK)
- The impact of involvement in nationally funded initiatives to
encourage museums and galleries education on museum educators'
professional development (UK)
- Sensing Chicago (USA)
- Developing Public Opinions on Science Using Information Technologies
(POSIT)(USA) PLUS UPDATES ON RESEARCH LISTED IN EARLIER MEM ISSUES:
- "Education for Action: Examining the Experiences and Thinking of
Participants in a Youth Forum on Sustainability" (Canada)
- 'What do young people gain from engagement with paintings, using the
Madonna of the Pinks as a specific example?'
- The Canadian Centre for Architecture and Teachers : Partnerships for
the Future (Canada) [To receive a complimentary copy of the February
2006 issue, please contact the editor at [log in to unmask]]

All listings are, of course, free of charge. Submissions are listed in
MEM and catalogued afterwards in our archives. Full access to the MEM
Archives is available only to subscribers. However, time-limited guest
passes are now available to students and other researchers at the
discretion of the editor.

For more information about this call or to discuss your research, please
contact us. Look forward to hearing from you!
