It has always seemed to me to be a little wacky to use artificial light
sources to power exhibits that use solar panels. I guess it has some
utility - getting small amounts of power to mechanisms that would
otherwise have to run on batteries and such - but if it's an exhibit on
'solar panels' there's so much potential to 'cloud' the main point. And
yet, it's done everywhere.
One exhibit that I thought had done it pretty well was at the Arizona
Science Center (lot's of Sun here). Artificial lights were used to race
cars around a track. I think they used something like a car headlight
which could be aimed at the solar panels on the roof of the cars as they
moved.
