The New Web: Interactive and Collaborative Technologies in the Museums
World
The Cultural Resource Management Program at the University of Victoria
is pleased to offer an exciting new six-day learning opportunity to
explore the ways in which effective online exhibits are created. Through
practical and interactive exercises, you will investigate the new wave
of web-based communication tools, examine best practices and standards
in online exhibit development, and enhance your understanding of
interactive and collaborative technologies.
This learning journey will help you conceptualize or redesign a useable
and effective website and strengthen your ability to:
* define various types of online exhibits and visitor experiences,
and identify best practices in the field.
* distinguish and understand the core technologies used in
developing online exhibits.
* understand the most effective approaches in creating online
exhibits and learning environments.
* create more engaging content - better implement navigational
structure, typography, color, and other fundamental design issues.
* understand how the new collaborative and communicative
technologies such as: blogs, forums, wikis, podcasts, and community
sites work.
* recognize how museums (and others) are using new collaborative
technologies to connect with visitors on the Web.
* plan, implement, and evaluate online exhibits and programs.
This course focuses on the conceptual aspects of web site design and
usability and will not require participants to have in depth technical
knowledge.
