Dear all,
In the UK there are a group of us working on a collaborative Cartoon
Science show through the British Interactive Group. Currently we are
getting some animations commissioned as we suspected it would be
difficult or impossible to get permission to use existing
Roadrunner/Bugs Bunny/Tom and Jerry type clips if any of us are
eventually going to charge schools for the show in any way.
However, I have a nagging feeling that audiences would enjoy the whole
thing much more, and relate to it better if we could show the characters
everyone is already familiar with. A colleague tells me that teachers in
the States do this in Physics teaching and can do it for ‘educational’
purposes. Obviously we would be doing it for educational purposes as
well, but almost all of us would have to charge some kind of fee for
students to see the show whether it happened in a school or science
centre.
Has anyone ever found a friendly contact in Warner Brothers or Disney
who may be open to the suggestion that we could use short clips if we
give credit? I would imagine it would be good PR for them doing
something ‘educational’ with the clips.
Does anyone have any experience of getting permission to show such
clips, or can anyone in the US put me in touch with the person I would
need to talk to?
I can’t find any UK contact details on the websites or anywhere that
might be able to help me.
Please help!
Merry Christmas from a frosty and bright Wales.
