Bob:

This is a very interesting question! Our programs at the Great Lakes
Science Center change daily based upon the needs of school group
programs, special events, and which demonstration spaces are available
in the museum that day for public programs.

Our department works on a schedule usually only a few days in advance,
if not the day before, so having permanent signage areas is impractical
for us as well. We provide visitors with a handout of a daily
demonstration and show schedule that is distributed at the Information
Desk, at select entrance gates by Admissions Staff, and near our
Demonstration Labs on the exhibit floor. One side has all the programs
and upcoming events listed (also a great way to market new films,
exhibits, etc. to guests already in the building), while the reverse
side has a map of our building. We also post times as "static cling"
stickers on a kiosk outside our Demonstration Labs and Auditorium for
programs, and near our Virtual Sports and Van De Graaf Generator
facilitated exhibits for their daily hours of operation.

While the daily handouts for the demonstration and show schedule may not
be the ideal situation if you add spontaneous programs that day, the
static clings work well. Spontaneus announcements throughout the
building seem to attact interest for new additions to the day's
programs. I also liked Jen's idea of a velcro signboard that can
easily be changed to add programs.
