If a demonstrator is handling the equipment, it's as simple as a
propane torch, a piece of steel pipe attached to a sturdy stand, and
insulating gloves. You might want a transparent plex shield between
equipment and visitors because they want to be up close to hear the
sound. Science Museum of Minnesota's Traveling Experiment Gallery
had a Ruben's Tube as part of a counter of activities moderated by
volunteers, but we dropped it because it was rarely used. There were
so many other activities that it wasn't missed.
If a free-standing exhibit component, here in the US, we have to work
with local fire departments to meet their regulations. Usually we've
had to plumb the exhibit into a building's gas lines and provide
automatic shut-off valves in case the flame goes out. They would not
allow a portable gas supply in a tank under an exhibit.
The sound is simply WONDERFUL! Best wishes, Jane
