I constructed a long period seismograph for the Science Centre and
Planetarium in Wollongong (Australia). It is sits on the exhibit floor
under a plexiglass cover and successfully records earthquakes from the
Asia Pacific region. It displays last 10 minutes, last 24 hours and last
recorded event.
Its most important feature is that it not only is 'real time' but it
also real. When significant events occur both press and TV visit and
events can be 'replayed'.
BTW Jumping up and down in front of it has no effect at all due to its
long period and various filtering that intentionally takes out visitor
effects.
