Eric,

the Ishihara colorblind tests can be hard to use -- I had the same
experience as Ian Russell's when asking about copyright. Recently, however,
we used a different test in our exhibition, developed by Jay Neitz at the
Medical College of Wisconsin. He is keen to have the test available to as
many people as possible, although the publishers of the test, Western
Psychological Services, may now require something more than accreditation.
Dr. Neitz also supplied us with some great images tonally adjusted as though
they would be what a person with severe red-green colorblindness would see
(one of the most striking things in the exhibit).

See the Neitz lab pages at http://www.mcw.edu/cellbio/colorvision/. There's
also a great presentation there about the use of color so that people who
are colorblind can see what you're saying.

cheers
Bronwyn

Subject: Copyright for colorblind test?

Dear List,

Does anyone have copyright information for the Ishihara colorblind tests?

I've seen them in lots of exhibits but I am having trouble getting through
to the publisher from Japan to ask permission. In particular, I am
interested in a colorblind test in which a "normal" person sees a 5, and
red-green colorblind person sees a 2.

Also, here's a dumb question. When does a copyright go into the public
domain? How can I find out if a copyright was registered?

Many thanks!
Eric
