What do I do? I have a new mom with her second baby, first baby to
breastfeed. She basically has very little or no visible breast tissue. Her
nipples and areola are the same size. Her nipples are everted and she can
express some colostrum when she massages the chest toward the nipple. She
stated she did not experience any changes is breast size during this
pregnancy or the first pregnancy, but did have some nipple soreness early on
during this pregnancy. The baby can latch-on after several attempts, but
I'm not hearing much swallowing after the first minute or two.
In 19 years of experience with mothers and babies I have never seem such
small amount of breast tissue. My dilemma is, how long do I wait to see if
she is going to get a milk supply before I have to start supplementing? Do
any of you think a full milk supply is possible? Any help you can give will
be greatly appreciated. Major problem is it the Christmas Holidays and I' m
off after today. I am planning to ask her doctor for a Home Health Consult.
Happy Holidays
Remember God made breast and they have always been Y2K compliant!
