I did it - blew my cool at a doctor today. Rolled my eyes back and just about called him an ignorant idiot. (Sorry Kathy A - Your article is always in the back of my mind) We called for an orthopedic consult. He swept in - and without examining the patient asked if she was breastfeeding and if so he could not treat her with the drug of choice - unless she would stop. (This was my patient). When I asked what drug he was thinking of - he said NSAIDS - It is forbidden to breastfeed and receive NSAIDS. He would not look at Hale, would not look at the Aap list, would not look at the new Clinics of Perinatology and would not call Poison Control. I was furious. He was insulted that a nurse would contradict him. He said he would fax me his instructions regarding NSAIDS and that the ministry of health forbids his prescribing NSAIDS for bf mothers. I said please do and I would correspond with the health ministry. He never sent the fax. He finally wrote orders that 1.He will not write an order for Nsaids for breastfeeding mothers 2. She could have anything that we give to postpartum women. My boss wrote the NSAIDS order. I Photostatted Hale and the Clinics and put it in her chart - He is coming back. He was nasty to the mother too. I blew my cool but I could not bring myself to drip butter - He was obnoxious. There must have been an more educational way to handle this. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Thanks for being here, I am still panting with rage.........Toby (Haifa, Israel) Toby Gish RN, BA, IBCLC mailto:[log in to unmask] *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
