Linda, I know others will have more info on this for you, but from what I have read it does make a difference what the mother eats during her pregnancy if there is a strong history of allergy like that. I just took a quick moment to look in Ruth Lawrence's book ('99), p.628 "Idealized strategy and mechanisms for the prevention of allergic diseases in humans". One strategy is "Prevent intrauterine sensitization" "Reduce maternal dietary allergenic load during last trimester, when potential for sensitization increases". The ref. Hamburger RN, HellerS, Mellon MH et al: Ann Allergy 51:281, 1983. Maybe others will give you more current references. If it was me I don't think I'd wait to my 3rd trimester either! Has the allergist made any recommendation, or her OB? Bettina >pregnant with her third, and wants to know if there is anything she can do to prevent her developing fetus from having the same experience. *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
