We have seen some particular nasty cases of herpes stomatitis this summer in SNJ. Popsicles work best and I really liked someone's idea about MOM popsicles. We also use a concoction that peds learn in residency called magic mix (bendryl/maalox/xylocaine viscous) to swab the mouth. I don't worry if kid won't eat solids, but keep the fluids going down the hatch! This may also be complicated by a high fever which can add to dehydration. Tylenol suppositories work well, one less thing to go into the mouth. Mom may find she really needs to express agressively to keep supply up for when baby can tolerate nursing again.
