I just received my first call from a Mom who is expecting her adoptive child in three months and is looking for info with regards to breastfeeding her adoptive child. She has given me permision to share this situation with you all. I am feeling overwhelmed by the lack of information on this subject and am unsure how to proceed with this Mom. This is the first call I have had dealing with this subject, I am sifting through the archives of lactnet and hope that will help fill in my gaps...but was hoping that some of you wise ones might have some information that would be helpful. This woman has never been pregnant or lactated before and at this point is exploring the possibility of trying this. I have recommended she contact our local LC who is away until the end of August, but in the meantime I do not want to leaving her longing for information. How would one proceed with this situation? I feel it would be helpful to first explore her reasons for wanting to try this. If this is something she does want to do, what are the necessary steps she needs to take? Are there any good books on this subject? I have copied Jack's article from his website and have a copy of LLL Nursing Your Adopted Baby. I think it would be very helpful if this women could speak with someone who has been through this situation. If anyone knows of someone who would be willing to share their experience's with her please let me know. She lives in BC, Canada.
