Re the deep pain. I have experienced this with a bad bite and I have counselled other mothers with similar expereinces. The way I've come up with to explain it is to remind the mother that a nursing baby is exerting suction pressure as well as clamp down pressure. A sleeping baby tends to bite because they're losing the nipple so are likely to try to suck in as they clamp down. The good old adolescent "hickey" comes to mind where the bruising is a combination of sucking and biting. Also any bite is a crush injury. I know a couple of mothers who have found some homeopathic arnica drops have been helpful. My faded memory was it eased over two to three days.Sonja
