Cheryl, I presently have been in touch with a mom who is pregnant and planning to breastfed. She has Grave's disease and wants rid of it after the baby is born meaning either radioactive ablation or surgery. As you pointed out it comes down to pumping until the milk is no longer radioactive which depends on how much of what she is given. A radiology department should be able to test the milk She too was told she would have to avoid contact with the baby for some time after the dose. I spoke to a pediatric endocrinologist about this and he felt avoiding maternal infant contact was excessively cautious. Your mom in question may want to inquire more about this too. -Rob Rob Cordes, DO, FAAP, FACOP general pediatrician Wilkes Barre PA mailto:[log in to unmask] *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
