Hello Wise Ones, I have a client who has been taking Diflucan since 5/10/99, before that she was treated for ~ 2 weeks with gentian violet, then with APNO, she has done the usual dietary modifications for thrush, and is taking an acidophilus- type supplement, and observing hygiene precautions. She started on 150 mg a day with the Diflucan, and since 5/23 has been on 200 mg/ day. I understand that with thrush, the RX needs to be continued until the client has been symptom-free for at least 7 days, but I've never had anyone on Diflucan for this long. So we did a liver function panel, and it came back with ALT at 67 (normal values are 0-45 IU/L) and AST at 44 (normal values are 7-40 IU/L). The midwives I work with do not want to refill her prescription again. The mom is wondering if she can safely taper off the med to stretch out her supply (she has about 7 doses left). I am wondering if we should be worrying about this, I am not familiar enough with these labs to feel certain. Her symptoms had just about subsided, then increased again during the past week, she says she's had itching, slight nipple pain, and "a crawly feeling" all of which she associates with yeast. And she has been having 1-2 episodes of this type nearly every day. Doesn't sound major, but she had nearly intolerable deep breast pain before, and isn't at all eager to go back THERE again. Any suggestions?
