Just to add to my precious post about deciding on how to feed the baby who is unable to breastfeed - that is, with or without bottles - I implied, but did not state, that the mother's view is central to this. For some, feeding by bottle may be more rewarding, and actually feel more normal. Of course, it is not physiologically normal, but it is certainly the cultural norm, and for some individuals, that's an important issue. Just think about the mothers who decide to express and only ever give EBM in a bottle because they don't want to breastfeed - desperately sad, IMHO, but that's their choice. As with everything, she needs to know the pros and cons, and the possible effect on the future of her breastfeeding, before she decides on what to do. But I don't know that a bottle is any worse, intrinsically, than a cup or a syringe or anything else. In a crisis, the right 'tools' should be available to everyone, so they can do the best they can to choose, knowing that even the 'experts' never have all the answers : ) Heather Welford Neil NCT bfc Newcastle upon Tyne UK *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
