There is a version of the football hold where the baby is on its side rather than on its back looking up at the breast. The side version is nice bec. the baby can curl around the mother. It's hard to describe without using my hands! The mom uses a pillow vertically in back of her, off to the opposite side. In other words, if she is using the right breast, the pillow is off to the left so there is a space where the baby can curl. If the pillow is horizontally in back of moml, the baby's feet will push off against the pillow, mom will have to lean over and baby's face is simply too far away from the breast. If the baby is lying on its back I find that the weight of the breast may interfere with the nursing if the breast is kind of resting on the baby's chest. I hope this wasn't too unclear... best, Pearl Shifer, IBCLC NYC mailto:[log in to unmask] ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
