I just had a really great morning. First Jane Tuttle and I were part of a Child Development Fair. Lots of daycares, preschools, "Success By 6", etc. booths. Jane had made up packets of info for daycare providers to pick up or for moms who's kids go to the daycare. Storing milk, pumping info, finding bf friendly daycare, etc. I used a variation of an idea I read about how to make Health Fairs interesting to kids. I cut out pictures of baby animals and pictures of their moms. I laid them on a low table with a sign, "All these babies like to nurse. Match them with their moms." I had humans as part of the mix. All the human pictures were from the Learning Curve catalog so they were wearing T-shirts saying "Breastfed babies are healthier babies." Lots of kids stopped to see the animal pictures even when their parents were sort of pulling them past the booth. A few negative reactions, but lots of parents saying to kids, "All these animals are mammels and nurse just like you did." While at the fair a mom came by who I had helped 20 months ago. She was one of those moms with MULTIPLE problems. Gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, a C-section a month early, incision infection, jaundice, milk didn't come in for nearly 2 weeks, little support from dad, sore nipples, yada, yada. No way she was going to make it, I thought. She is still nursing!!!! She really makes up for those moms who can't nurse through a hang nail. :-) Some days we get to see that we make a difference, Sue Reiske Lawrence, KS *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
