One thing to remember is that after 2 years, it will take a while to cease producing milk and if she has been expressing to 'check' on having milk, she may have unconsciously increased the amount that is there. Two other considerations are of course being pregnant and does someone around her and very close to her have a new baby? After my last baby weaned, my breasts would tingle, I would turn and look and become very 'maternal' (I could just feel those hormones flowing) just from hearing a new baby cry - and this took the better part of year to go away. Perhaps in our society if more women breastfed past 1 year, and those of us who did told what it was like and what happened to us in the period post weaning (grief, saddness, the feelings like I mentioned above, how long before all the milk went away, etc.) more women would understand that what they are going through is normal. What am I talking about . . .I'd love it if as a society we could just get new moms to understand the 'normal' of breastfeeding, much less one who had nursed into toddlerhood!
