I've lived in Martinsburg, WV for about 10 years. Attmpting to promote breastfeeding, etc. I've run into many closed/slamming doors, but after 10 years I am beginning to see changes. Today I went to speak to a new obstetrician who has just moved here from Michigan. In her office was her one month old healthy breastfed baby. What more role modeling can we ask for? She recently obtained hospital privileges, and has 4 new patients due the end of August. She was so very open to me, and we have the same philosophy of breastfeeding, and childrearing etc. So although ten years seems like a long time, perhaps some inroads are being made. The one downside to this is that the medical community who have been here for years are skeptical of her; I am not sure why. Maybe I do. Things have gone on unchallenged for years and years. This was a sleepy town, that just coasted on this is the way we've always done it, and NO there is no other way. However it looks like things are changing. I wish her the very best, and I wanted to share this exciting news with the rest of my lactnet friends.
