Haven't seen the Mothering magazine article but this is indeed curious - "New studies reported in JAMA show that they (pregnant or nursing women) should avoid echinacea, senna, goldenseal, comfrey, and licorice." Regarding these herbs: would very much like to know more about these "new studies" or even old studies, or even old animal studies. A review is not a "new study" - it is not even an anecdotal report/case history.
