I have some knowledge of WIC Programs throughout the US and do not know of any
WIC Programs that have lawyers or LC's that can accompany a mother to her
physician appointments. In some programs there may be interaction between
lactation support folks and the MD's in the community but not in the sense
that they would be comfortable or have the time to go to an appointment. In
my experience WIC tries to educate the participant so that she can have the
information and lobby for her own needs. WIC is a nutrition education
program, not a home visiting program. There may be some mechanism in the
health department that would allow a public health nurse to go with her to her
appointment. This is regional in availability. The public health nurse would
have to buy into the lactation management recommendations that you have
identified, so that she can lobby the MD for this treatment. I don't envy
that Mom-I've been judged "a hysterical mother" by a physician and it isn't a
uplifting experience! I was right, by the way, and didn't ever see him again.
