Hello Lactnet Friends,
I am posting for the first time. I have been lurking and searching archives
for a couple of years and find this arena invaluable. I am a private practice
LC, just getting started, and have been a LLL Leader for about 10 years.
The question I have is for a friend who is a LC at a local hospital. She has
a mom there who is extremely anemic and MD has prescribe InFed ( IV iron).
Would this be a problem for the baby? Our first inclination is that it is a
supplement not a drug, and should be safe. We are wondering if the extra iron
would be found in the breastmilk or would the level remain unaffected like
some other supplements are known to do. What would happen to the baby if he
did get this additional iron? Hale and Briggs have no reference to Infed.
Would appreciate any thoughts.
        Thanks,
Judy Gutowski, IBCLC
