Of course there are plenty of calories in the foods she is using, but the
breastmilk is still more important. How long is this baby? Birth weight
is not an indicator of ultimate size. Some of the humongous(sp) football
players, and the very tall basketball players started off as 7# and 20in.
And some babies born at 9# to parents who are average size, do not
continue at the 90th percentile wt they are born with. So look at the
wt/ht (accurately taken, not using a paper marked by pencil, but a proper
measuring board) and look at parental size.
To increase calories, I would look at what a busy mom of 4 children is
doing during the day and night. How long are the nursings? Try one sided
nursing for a week to see if that will increase hind milk the baby gets.
How rested is mom? Just some thoughts.

Yikes, sorry, I meant to include this information.

The baby is now 7 months old. She started out at 9lbs and is now
14lbs.

The mother has just started giving her solids. Mostly banana, sweet
potatoes and squashes. As I said before this is her 4th breastfed
baby and she has never had any trouble. The pedi has been pushing
her to feed the baby boiled white potatoes with lots of butter to
fatten the baby up! He argues that there is no nutritional value in
bananas and sweet potatoes. ARG!
