Dear Lactnetters, I've just been presented with a puzzling problem. A mother of a one month old baby boy (second child) had to hospitalise her baby at his 3rd week as he was not gaining weight- still at birth weight at 3 weeks and spittting up. Ultrasound was one, tests showed no pyloric senosis, no twisted intestines. There were signs of dehydration, Baby was placed on soybean and stopped spitting Supportive gynae put the mother (allergies-hayfever, eczema, sinuses) on chicken, rice and bananas- tried to be off dairy products for the next 2 weeks. So the mum is to pump and throw her breast milk and baby had to be on soybean for 2 weeks. They are wondering if it was galactase- yet no signs of jaundice or the classical signs associateed with galactase problems. Any comments? The aspiring LLL leader referred this case to me, having exhausted all her ideas- I'm presenting this to you, to explore further ideas- I've yet to see her personally- she just talked to me on the phone.
