Subject: Question for a mother about "Premarin" cream
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hello Anne,

I have a request for information from a mother regarding the Estrogen
cream "Premarin (conjugated estrogens)". She used the cream twice a
week for 7-8 months for vaginal dryness. The cream contains 0.625 mg of
conjugated estrogens per each gram used. Apparantly, her doctor
indicated this would be okay with breastfeeding, but after discontinuing
use, her daughter has shown signs of breast enlargement. Her
pediatrician has indicated concern over the extended use of the cream.

Her daughter was about 4 months old when the mother started using the
cream, and the mother discontinued use when the child was 12 months
old. Her daughter is now 15 months old, still nursing, and has
developed one breast that is slightly larger than the other.

There are other possible causes for the condition that are currently
being investigated, but the mother is interested in any information
connecting the use of the cream with breast enlargement in the infant.

In particular she is concerned whether the condition in her daughter is
temporary. I realize that we most likely don't have any information to
alleviate this fear, but any information you could find would be much
appreciated.

Thank you for your time and attention on this matter. I will await your
response.

Sincerely,

Sheryl Farrington
