Hi Everybody:
The recent posts on post-surgical lactation success have inspired $.02
worth of thoughts: humans are wonderfully variable, and the life force is
infinitely powerful. Witness all the folks whose fallopian tubes and vas
deferens re-anastomosed (?spelling) after surgery. So how could anyone ever
say that any woman couldn't make milk or breastfeed unless the breasts were
removed? Every mom should try. And every mom needs daily, or nearly daily
support until she is in the groove and the baby is thriving. It doesn't matter
what her history is. She doesn't even have to have been pregnant. I am working
with a woman now who has started making milk nearly 3 weeks after nursing her
adopted baby with an SNS. Her baby has all the breastfed baby behaviors, which
is so rewarding for her mother.
We can't know anything until we try it with a strong intention, a clear
heart, and the help of dedicated, knowledgeable, open-minded support. Warmly,
Nikki
