Sorry to be behind on threads but as to Melinda's question on
Hep B:
To quote from the 1997 Red Book (AAP report of the
committee on infectious disease): "Hepatitis B surface
antigen (HBsAG) has been detected in milk from HBsAG
positive women. However, studies from Taiwan and
England have indicated that breastfeeding by HBsAg
positive women does not increase significantly the risk of
infection among their infants. In the United States infants born
to known HBsAG-positive women should receive both Hepatitis
B Immune Globulin and hepatitis B vaccine, effectively
eliminating any theorectical risk of transmission
through breastfeeding. Immunoprophylaxis of infants with
hepatitis B vaccine alone also provides protection."
