Hi all! I am posting this for a fellow IBCLC that has not been able to access Lacnet from work as of yet. She received a call today from a woman that has an 18 mos. old son who has Barth Syndrome. This syndrome consists of dialated cardiac myopathy plus neutropenia. The woman is expecting another child soon, and is wondering how breastmilk may help her current child. She is thinking that the breastmilk may help her child fight infections (these children are succeptable to bacterial infections according to the mom). She is wondering how much breastmilk she should give her child with the syndrome to help his immune system?? The other lc and myself of course totally agree that this is a good idea--but are clueless as to a "dosage" of breastmilk. Any ideas?? Pam Holland, BS, IBCLC Savannah, GA
