Hello Lactnetters, This was sent to me from Mary Rose Tully, BA, MPH, IBCLC who heads the milk bank and lactation program at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh NC. She is not on Lactnet and said I could forward this to the list: >>Practice hint of the month. Did you know that if a mother is using ANY of the 'ozole antifungals (miconozole, fluconozole, etc) and her baby is on cisipride for reflux the baby could develop fatal heart arythmias? One death has been reported from this drug interaction (I don't know that the source of the antifungal was breastfeeding in that case). Can't use any of them topically on mother or baby if the baby is on the cisipride. Since it is not in the drug information I learned it from our neonatologist who studies drugs in neonates and have been trying to pass it on to anyone to whom a mother might turn for drug info!>> If you have comments/questions, e-mail her directly at [log in to unmask] Pretty scary, IMHO. I'm glad she brought this to my/our attention. Linda J. Smith, BSE, FACCE, IBCLC Bright Future Lactation Resource Centre Dayton, OH USA http://www.bflrc.com
