Regarding the woman with the over-supply in only one breast, and presumably OK on the other side, I would think that taking sage internally would decrease the supply in both breasts, which may not be desirable for the OK side. >Subject: Re: oversupply > small amounts of sage tea.... 1/2 - 1 cup of tea a day. The amount of sage that will start to reduce milk supply has not been established, that I know of. If anyone has information here, please post/email. I'm not disagreeing with the suggested dose here, just trying for more information. Sage's therapeutic dose ( amount at which something pharmacological happens) has not been studied or established for lactation but expect it will be found to be quite small, given it's reputation. Anyone know if the milk supply rebounds after discontinuing sage? I also wonder if rebound happens during weaning at all stages of lactation or only in the early weeks? Cabbage leaves seem wiser option to slow milk synthesis, as can be applied only to the desired breast. Sheila Humphrey BSc (Botany) RN IBCLC [log in to unmask]
