Sure hope the Reglan helps. It did help a FTT baby I recently assisted. (At birth weight at 2 mo old) After over 2 months on Reglan the mom has slowly weaned off and finds her milk supply the same now. Earlier attempt at weaning was done abruptly, and definitely affected the supply. You could recommend "Mother's Milk Tea" made by Traditional Medicinals teas out of Sebastopol, CA who also make a PMS tea and Breathe Easy. I usually give the mom's who seem to be using herbals already and are receptive to the idea, a package of 16 tea bags, and recommend its use once or twice a day. BUT, I ask them to start the tea only after being on the Reglan for at least 3 days. If they were to have an adverse reaction to the herbs, it could be confused with a reaction to Reglan. Anyway the tea "does no harm", and when made a relaxation ritual, it probably contributes to milk supply in several ways. Just a suggestion. Pooh. ---------- From: Anne Merewood[SMTP:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Friday, January 02, 1998 10:36 PM Subject: premie Mom I talked to some drs today and one took on my low milk supply Mom of a premie and will probably prescribe Reglan. I was enthusiastically supporting this as the baby is actually getting sicker (been put back on a ventilator) and Mom is trying hard but I though if Reglan works it might make a difference quickly and that will give her a much-boosted need. Any comments? Plus... I was about to suggest fenugreek but the NICU nurses warned me against 'suggesting herbal remedies' because since I'm doing this in a hospital setting it will seem like the hospital is recommending these unproven remedies. How do others of you deal with this in similar situations? Do hospital based LCs ever recommend fenugreek, blessed thistle, etc.? TIA Anne Merewood
