In a message dated 97-12-16 21:00:10 EST, you write: << Just as they are about to give in , and listen to their gut , Mable stops crtyng and goes to sleep, so now they think that they have done something right..... It was interesting that the dad wanted to go in and get her more than the mom ... at least she admitted that this could be hurting the baby and that her "gut" was telling her to go and get her....... This episode brought tears to my eyes....... >> Me too. But Jamie's final comment, "I wish we could turn the clock back." told me she regretted what they had done. I don't think they would do it again. My 23 year old daughter was watching with me..."Just go in and pick up the baby!!!" she kept saying. "Oh, this is so sad. How can they DO that?" We both had tears. They said all the right things -- about how the baby wouldn't trust them anymore, and what she was learning was that her parents were NOT there for her.... Doesn't it strike you that all these "programs" for babies, Ferber & Ezzo in particular, are all for the convenience of the parents? It's never what is good for the baby..... Is Ferber from Columbia University? And, my gosh, how old is Mabel supposed to be? She was still in a bassinet -- 2 months, maybe??? I'd love to know what message the rest of the world got with this. Sure Ferber works. So do lots of things if you want your child to shut down -- at least for now. No telling what they will be like when they are older. ARGHHHHHH.... Jan B. in Wheaton..... If you are in California, don't read this yet.
