I don't think anyone really knows what causes this bleeding.  It does
clear up spontaneously by about 1 week after birth.  You are
right--bless the pediatricians who did not worry about the milk going to
the baby.

The obstetrician is also right.  If it goes on for a long time, there
should be an investigation, because bleeding from the nipple
*occasionally* means cancer.  But it is really unusual to have bilateral
intraductal papilloma, presenting at the same time, just after birth.  I
am surprised, though, the obstetrician has not heard of this before.
