Hi all, I received a call from a mom today who gave birth yesterday thru C-Section. The baby(full term) has heart problems and was medivac to the military hospital in the San Diego area (Balboa?). Mom started pumping and has already collected some colostrum, but will not be with baby for about one week. Baby will not be able to receive breastmilk until after surgery--about two weeks. Should mom be pumping every two hours or would 7 times a day be enough--i.e. morning, midmorning, lunch, midafternoon, dinner, evening and before bed? I expect it will be some weeks before baby will be at the breast. Will the pumping be enough to establish and keep up her milk supply? She will be making a 6 hour flight from O'ahu to San Diego. What are the storage guidelines? She will be on a military medivac. Best case scenario, the military will be able to provide her with storage, but assuming the worse case, how should the mom pack and transport the milk? Also, are there any LCs in this area. Hopefully, the hospital will have one, but I doubt it. If there is someone in the area who could help this family out, I would really appreciate it. Could you e-mail me privately with a contact number? Thanks. Aloha, Gloria Thai LLLLeader Hawai'i
