Thought all you lactnetters would be interested in this email exchange from pedtalk. Does anyone have good references for Dr. Balu on tongue-tie & breastfeeding? Linda L. I think it's an obsolete and unnecessary procedure, and the only indication for doing it is to increase revenue. Unless it is a severe case of ankyloglossia, this procedure should not be performed at the infants's expense, even if it is a simple ( in-office ? ) procedure. If there are studies out there that indicate that there are problems from tongue-tie, I would like references. I've been in practice for 17 years and yet to see a child who suffered from it.
